Yet Another Update
I am on the roll with updates! Version 1.3.2 of Chess for Android uses a larger font for the move list and highlights the last moved played by the engine (controlled by the already existing "show valid moves" button).
I am thinking about a version 2.0 with a completely new board layout to use the limited screen space more effectively. As usual, keep an eye on this blog if you are interested.

Thanks for the updates.
I'm currently working on a academic research project at a Portuguese university. This project involves an agent playing chess in a mobile device (with Android). Since you have this chess application available on Android's Market for free I was wondering if you would also be willing to provide the source code, so I can use it on this project.

I have no direct plans to make the Android applications open source. Please keep in mind that my game applications are relatively simple projects. If you want to research chess programming at a competitive level, many other much stronger chess engine are available in the public domain (although none directly for Android as far as I know). You may want to port one of the stronger engines instead of starting with my engine (derived from BikJump). Hopefully this helps.
Anyway, thank you for your time :)
I added save-on-exit to all my three Android games.
